Hutt B Win Tier II Competition Hutt B have topped the second National League Tier Two Tournament which wrapped up in the capital on Sunday.
Canterbury had the mental edge over Hutt B after beating them 9-7 earlier in the day, but Hutt stepped up to the mark in the final.
The side from Christchurch took the lead early on to head up 2-0 with goals from Zoltan Boros. Hutt pegged one back through Ben Elisara on 6-5 for a close 2-1 at the quarter break.
The locals drew level early in the second quarter through Mataio Pou, and then took the lead 2-3 with a goal from Cameron Hayes. Canterbury’s Fraser Bickley then scored a penalty to make it 3-3, and Boros scored his third goal to retake the lead 4-3. Matt Quin brought it back to a draw for Hutt to head into the halftime break level.
Canterbury lifted a notch in the third quarter to score two goals (Lawson, Boros) to Hutt’s one (Quin) for a 6-5 lead at the final break.
Hutt scored early in the the last quarter through Pou for 6-6, and then took the lead 6-7 with a goal from Hayes with 5:10 left on the clock. Boros then intercepted a pass to the goalie and scored to draw 7-7 at 3:48. Nate Russell put the final goal into the back of the net for Hutt at 2:16 to seal the match 7-8.

Hutt Tier 2 Men topple Maranui in opening game Friday, 20 May at WRAC
Maranui couldn’t quite make the most of their home advantage when they took on local rivals Hutt B in the opening game.
February’s Tier Two champions Maranui started strongly, taking the lead 3-2 in the first quarter with goals from Stefan Curry (2) and Tom Aitken, whilst Cameron Hayes and Jack Ross found the back of the net for Hutt.
Hutt drew level early in the second spell through Hayes, then the two Wellington sides went toe-to-toe for a 5-5 score-line at the half.
Hutt kicked it up a gear and effectively sealed the match in the third quarter; scoring six goals to Maranui’s one.
They kept their momentum going into the fourth to finish at a final score of 9-16 to Hutt.
“It’s mostly our Under 20 team so it’s a good chance to get some games in before Pan Pacs” said Hutt’s Cameron Hayes.
Top scorers for the game were Hayes (4), Maranui’s Stefan Curry (3) and Aitken (2), whilst Elisara, Quinn, Pou, April, and Hogwood all managed two each.
