Hutt B have topped the second National League Tier Two Tournament which wrapped up in the capital on Sunday.

The side from Christchurch took the lead early on to head up 2-0 with goals from Zoltan Boros. Hutt pegged one back through Ben Elisara on 6-5 for a close 2-1 at the quarter break.

The locals drew level early in the second quarter through Mataio Pou, and then took the lead 2-3 with a goal from Cameron Hayes. 22 May 2016 Hutt Tier 2 Men topple Maranui in opening game
Friday, 20 May at WRAC

Maranui couldn’t quite make the most of their home advantage when they took on local rivals Hutt B in the opening game.

February’s Tier Two champions Maranui started strongly, taking the lead 3-2 in the first quarter with goals from Stefan Curry (2) and Tom Aitken, whilst Cameron Hayes and Jack Ross found the back of the net for Hutt.

Hutt drew level early in the second spell through Hayes, then the two Wellington sides went toe-to-toe for a 5-5 score-line at the half.

Hutt kicked it up a gear and effectively sealed the match in the third quarter; scoring six goals to Maranui’s one.

They kept their momentum going into the fourth to finish at a final score of 9-16 to Hutt.

“It’s mostly our Under 20 team so it’s a good chance to get some games in before Pan Pacs” said Hutt’s Cameron Hayes.

Top scorers for the game were Hayes (4), Maranui’s Stefan Curry (3) and Aitken (2), whilst Elisara, Quinn, Pou, April, and Hogwood all managed two each.
